Enjoy the longest running theatrical melodrama in the world, as listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, when The Vicksburg Theatre Guild presents "Gold In The Hills." You can cheer the hero, boo the villain, sing along to great old songs, and have a wonderful time with this fun, family-oriented, Vicksburg tradition. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 & under. Group rates are available. Performances run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, March 4- April 9 (except Easter Weekend) and July 8-30.

Built for the daughter of Vicksburg's founder, Newitt Vick, this mansion has been restored and furnished with elegant 18th and early 19th century antiques. Fine French paintings are displayed in every room. The house is available for private parties and receptions by prior arrangement.

Featured in National Geographic Magazine as the "Time Capsule of the South." Built in three different periods: circa 1797, Frontier; 1836, Empire; and 1849, Greek Revival. These dates were authenticated by the University of New Orleans Archeological Department. The 1700s kitchen is furnished with museum-quality antiques. Cannon damage is visible inside and out. Closed December through February.

The Old Court House Museum-Eva W. Davis Memorial

A historic building, constructed by slaves in 1858, the Old Courthouse is a National Landmark that has hosted such great Americans as Jefferson Davis, Theodore Roosevelt, Booker T. Washington, William McKinley and U.S. Grant. Here, on July 4, 1863, the U.S. Flag was raised and the Confederate flag lowered to signal the victory of the Union troops at Vicksburg.

Tours begin at the Visitors Center, where life-sized exhibits and artifacts from the Siege of Vicksburg are on display. An 18-minute film recounting the campaign is shown on the hour and on the half-hour. The 16-mile driving tour can be taken without a guide. The USS Cairo Museum is open in the north section.

The Vicksburg National Military Park contains an extensive collection of historic structures including 661 monuments, 594 cast iron tablets and position markers, 70 bronze castings, 141 cannon and carriages, 15 bridges, 6 buildings, and an ironclad river gunboat, the U.S.S. Cairo. The monuments feature stone and bronze work by renowned American sculptors.

The Park also contains the Vicksburg National Cemetery, established by an act of Congress in 1866. The Vicksburg National Cemetery has the distinction of having the largest number of Civil War interments of any national cemetery in the United States. Of the 17,000 Union veterans buried here, only 5,000 are known by name.

Vicksburg's historic Walnut Hills Round Table Restaurant is authentic southern cooking at its best. Featuring their famous "round tables," you'll never leave a stranger as new friends pass a variety of Southern dishes on the restaurant's large lazy Susan's. In addition to fried chicken and fried catfish, both of which are local favorites, the kitchen also serves an exquisite pork loin with molasses, apple cider and sage that has become very popular. Other specialties include chicken pot pie and a chicken with Rotel peppers and tomatoes. Vegetables include mashed potatoes, mustard greens, black-eyed peas, creamed corn, squash, glazed carrots and there is always a dish of coleslaw at every table.
